is there anyway to delete data from a miniDV tape... not just overwrite it but actually delete it??

You could always plug in an external black/static video source and hit record.

that will just be overwriting it... the reason i need to actually delete it is because in order to use the "blank search" feature of my camera (which allows it to keep the timecode after previewing) it has to actually be blank.

I would think the only way to truely 'blank' it would be to demagnetize. Don't know if that works or if you'd really want to do that though.

Yes, you would need a bulk tape eraser. You might still find a cheap one at Radio Shack.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
