I HAVE A LARGE MOVIE FILE (1.3Gb) THAT I WANTED TO BURN TO DISK. I HAVE MANAGED TO SPLIT IT UP INTO 2 FILES THAT WILL FIT USING A FREEWARE SOFTWARE PACKAGE. MY ONLY PROBLEM NOW IS THAT THE SECOND FILE WILL NOT PLAY, AND AS I WANTED THEM PLAYABLE STRAIGHT FROM DISK THIS IS A PROBLEM!!

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT DEAL WITH MPEG COMPRESSION AND SO THE "MPEG HEADDER" WILL BE MISSING ON THE SECOND FILE?? DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT.

CAN ANYONE ADVISE ON A SOFTWARE PACKAGE THAT WILL LEAVE 2 PLAYABLE HALVES OR HOW TO REPAIR MY SECOND FILE..

THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL RESPONCE

  2. I use TMPGE to split files, just go to File, MPEG tools, Merge it Cut. Its pretty easy from there and both halves play fine.

  3. A quicker way to do it is to use the source range and batch encode in TMPGE and split it during the encode process.

I am trying to split a Mpeg1 file in TMPGENC, the first half goes O.K., but it locks and freezes, when attempting to cut the second half.

    Anybody solved this problem?.

First of all, pls stop shouting I heard ya

If you used regular split software (you'd get something like .001 .002 after spliting) then you won't be able to play the second half becuz of missing header, this you understand correctly. So if you want to split mpg file you will need TMPGEnc, bbMPEG, M2edit and etc. You can find all these tools under "Tools section" on your left.

You might as well try playing a few second trick. It's been know that TMPGEnc's often freeze when using cut/join tool. To avoid this problem you have to click play for a few second before moving slide bar.

BTW freezing when cutting 2nd half, it might not freeze as you think. When cutting 2nd half TMPGEnc will search through the file from beginning, so it'll look like it just stop there but in fact it's doing its job. Next time wait for a few minutes (longer if you use small system) when cutting 2nd half.
