What is the best way to make vcds when the original is ntsc . I live in a pal region the dvds play perfect on my dvd player when I convert them they sometimes look like they skip a frame every so often. I have tried encoding the svcd on ntsc and burn with neor set at ntsc. I tried making them pal but had no better luck. I also find I have to deinterlace the ntsc files.

  2. I also live in a PAL region (Australia) and have had this problem.

Unfortunately there is no real solution. The problem is caused as PAL is 2 frames a second and NTSC is 29.97. This means to convert from NTSC to PAL frames have to be dropped. Similarly to convert from PAL to NTSC frames need to be duplicated.

The preferable solution is to leave your video in NTSC if you player/TV support it, after all most do now days.

As for deinterlacing, this is due to your source material. Assuming you encode and specify interlaced source it should be unnoticable on your TV, if you do not change NTSC to PAL.

  4. What frame rate are your source videos? I ask as many movies are 24 frames/second. If they are the NTSC frame rate of 29.97 then the non smooth playback would be due to your DVD player or your choice of encoder.
