i thought if you simply held the shift key down and moved the clip with the mouse it would work but it does not.
what i want to do is simply slide the entire clip down about 5 secs so i can add a title infront not over the top of the video

In VS6 the way to do this is,
1. Load your video.
2. Select 'Color' from the 'Storyboard' drop-down list.
3. Drag what ever color you want to be behind the title to the front of the video.
4. Set the duration of the color clip to 5 secs.
5. Add your title to the inserted color clip.
