grab the forceaspi drivers from the tools section (left hand side)
and install. Also try and get DVD2AVI v1.6+ by LOLI.J as it has
less bugs.
I also suggest you dump smartripper and use DVDDecrypter
as it has less problems with some of the newer DVD's. -
i did that kingjohn, and instead of the screen going blue, it now goes black and locks up.
Where would I be able to get DVDdecryter from??? -
Does it also do the same if you have the DVD inserted, then re-start your computer?
http://www.dvddecrypter.com/
Dvd decrypter, may not work at all with other programs, it curently renames the VOB files, you can rename them back to get other programs to load the ifo files.
It has its problems, but maybe it is more sutable for you ? -

that divix 3.x alpha slow motion was not. Now you say there is a massive
defect in DVDecrypter (not being able to play VOB's after processing
is pretty massive). It is plain that you sometimes make things up as you go along. Do you think no one is going to notice?
Both SMartripper and DVDecrypter process
the vob's (doing much more than renaming) in ifo/movie mode
and create new ifo's to suit. If you want a direct file copy,
but unencrypted (suit placement to dvdr or further compression),
choose file mode for smartripper or dvdencryptor and the vobs
are ripped and recreated as they were, name and all. -

You seam to have a chip on your shoulder, please don't continue to follow me around the forum trying to find faults. If you have anything of value to add to the thread, then do so without having a go a the previous poster.
You also seam to be reading things that are simply not there, I have not said anywhere there are massive problems, perhaps you can show me exactly where I said this ?? And I neither mention playback, in fact this is what I said
"may not work at all with other programs, it currently renames the VOB files"
So tell me where these words are ?
I suggest you contact the author of DVD Dcipher, who will tell you all about the problem, in fact he is sick of hearing about it, and as for your comments of the DivX 3.11 alpha, if you really believe that is a lossless codec then that is up to you...
VTS_01_1.VOB = VTS_01_PGC_01_1.VOB
Further more the original post in this thread has asked for help with smartripper, but instead of offering any, you tell him to dump it for something "You" (BUT NOT EVERYONE) believes is better.
I for one prefer Smartripper, and I will continue to use it, I have not had any problems with it at all !!, it works on my system just fine !!
I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND !!
I have also used the other program, but the average user would not have found the problem, when used with the likes of DvdX -
KINGJOHN, FINALLY MANAGED TO GET SMARTRIPPER TO WORK WITH MY PC RUNNING OS ME.
I HAD TO START UP SMARTRIPPER, WITHOUT DVD IN DRIVE AND THEN PUT THE DVD IN. RAN THE DVD FOR A COUPLE OF SECS AND THEN LOCATED THE DVD THROUGH SMARTRIPPER.
IF I OPEN UP SMARTRIPPER WHEN HAVING DVD IN AFTER RUNNING IT THE PC LOCKS UP. WEIRD BUT TRUE, WHAT DO YOU THINK? -
Yes, my original post
Play the disk first... 8)
Problems like this, are usually fixed by "Initializing the DVD" this is telling Windows, you have a DVD in there and what it is, now that the system knows this, its ready to play the disk, but in your case you can run Smart ripper.
Sometimes a right click on the drive icon > open will do the same thing.
One other thing, if you have Power DVD 4, installed, it should be configured not to automatically play a DVD, and you should download the latest bug fix for it. Windows should also be configured with "Auto insert notification" switched off
I have also found that using programs like "DVD genie" to configure Power DVD, when using different region disks, also stops any problems with window crashes.
Although it is possible to rip different region disks on a fixed region drive, things work so much better if the drive has been hacked to play any region.
Anyway, if you carry on like you are then you should be just fine, I use Windows 98SE, and there were a few problems at first, but now its settled down, so long as nothing wants to run when I insert a disk.
Maybe configure smartripper to run when you insert a a DVD would be the best wayDont ask how... I dont know

CHEERS, WHAT I DID WAS RUN SMARTRIPPER 1ST THEN LOADED THE DVD AND PLAYED IT AND LOCATED THE DVD WITH SMARTRIPPER IN MY DVD DRIVE.
ALL THE SAME NOW IT`S SORTED. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
DONE QUITE A FEW NOW ON MY HOME PC AT HOME RUNNING XP WITH NO PROBS AT ALL. APART FROM THE FILM "ALI" IT RAN AT DOUBLE SPEED FOR SOME REASON AND COPIED THE FILM TWICE. WHAT`S GOING OFF THERE? -
Oh, I am sure there will be a few DVD's that will try and fool smartripper, Now and then I get some that rip ok, but wont convert with the normal program, I have to switch to something else, and do it a different way.
DivdX handles most, but now and then I have to use the VOB's in Flask, or even TMPGEnc, hopefully we will continue to get updated versions of Smartripper to overcome the problems.
Download a few more VOB converters, see if there is one that handles ALI better !Does the VOB play ok ?
This time next year I dont think we will be converting anything !, just a disk to disk copy !! -
the VOB plays back at double speed in DVDAVI and this remains the same when i play my mpegs back after converstion. Where can i get vob convertors from?

I have only used DVDAVI once, did not think much of it, so now use DvdX -

Maybe. But the latest DVD stand-alone recorders have copyright protection built in to them! I'm sure there will be a way around this, but not at the moment.
DVD > De-protect > DVD Write
That at the moment only takes a few minuets ! and the slow bit is writing the new disk at 4X . I am very sure any DVD protection can be overwritten, just like any other firmware.
CDR writers suppose to have had it as well -
ah, where have you people been, I have a Panasonic DMR-E20 stand alone DVD recorder and I record any I mean any Commerical DVD that I want, true You have to upgrade the DVD player Bio's I bought so the DVD recorder will go ahead and record the DVD but that was a simple CD-R upgrade that took of all of 30 seconds. So its very simple to make perfect copies of DVD's on DVD-R's.
