I am buying a surround sound home theatre system this weekend, and i am wondering what is the best sound setting on TMPGenc for my home theatre sound ? I will be making SVCD's at 480x480. Right now i using for my audio of my SVCD's as MPEG 2 44100HZ and 224 for bitrate.
Thanks

Use Headac3he or Be-sweet, surround 2, no less than 224K, & 48KHZ if your DVD player supports it.
If your buying a new home theatre system make sure it has Pro-logic II.
I also find if a up the bitrate settings to 320K and change from stereo to Dual, and using Pro-logic II to decode the 2 surround chanels i get near dolby digital seperation for the 5 chanels.

check if you can burn a miniDVD with video at CVD settings but
audio as it is ripped from the DVD. You can get the playing time
of SVCD with audio of a DVD i.e. true DD5.1 surround. Note: the
majority of players will not support this format. -
Although I've never tested it myself, it is unlikely that pushing the audio bitrate from 224 kbit/s to 320 kbit/s CBR will have a "big" improvement with a good MP2 encoder. 224 kbit/s MP2 is definitely near transparency.
Similarly, dual channel may not necessarily be a good choice. Standard stereo does NOT destroy phase information between the left and right channel. However, it can intellegently allocate more bitrate to the channel that requires it (e.g., if left is silent and right has audio, the majority of the bitrate goes to the right channel). Although a test would definitely be interesting, it seems unlikely to me that dual channel would yield better results when compared to standard stereo for most types of audio.

But what I have found is that movies that really make use of all five chanels upping the bitrate makes a noticable difference if you enjoy a good surround experiance. If your just listening to a movie in stereo I would not bother(unless its a musical concert maybe).
For example I did Tombraider at 320K awsome, I considered the extrabitrate worth it and noticeable.
As for using Dual instead of Stereo........I just want to make sure I do nothing to comprimise the surround info
