  1. Hello all,

Ok, I have four DV tapes from my Panasonic NV-DS55B. I wish to put each tape on it's own CD so I can play them on a DVD player. VCD seems the way to go.

I'm having problems finding out what quality level I should transfer the DV to my PC at. I have a 60 GB HDD with three partitions of 20GB each. It seems the file size will be very large for a whole hour tape. What format (quality level) should I use to capture the video onto my PC, before it's converted to VCD? I don't really want to split each hour into a number of clips. If possible I just want to choose the right setting & then leave the transfer going by itself.

I am using Firewire. I have access to WinXP MovieMaker and Adobe Premiere 6.5 (Yes, probably both ends of the market).

Thankyou for your help, it's much appreciated.

  2. Try to capture with DV-AVI format using MS Movie Maker. The file size will be around 12G for 1 hour of DV movie. Then either convert directly to VCD using TMPGEnc or framserve from Premiere if you wish edit your video before the conversion.

Panasonic Camcorder Rules! Although image quality cannot match to Sony equivalent, the feature is smashing. Top loading tape mechanism, free style remote, instant telezoom, zoom mic, ...

If it is a VCD, most DV image imperfection can be corrected by the filters in TMPGEnc.

I love my Panasonic DV camcorder too. Sooo small & easy to use.

I'll do as you suggest tonight.
