  1. I am new to this dvd stuff. I just got a dvd player for my tv. My girlfriend wants me to get dvd's like we get mp3's. I have no clue about how to do this. I only have a CDR burner. from what i understand there is a way to convert them so you can burn them on a regular CDR. Where do i download the dvd's? What do i need to convert them? How do i convert them. Can someone help me please..

    Shawn,

Welcome to the wonderful world of AVI, DIVIx, VCD, SVCD and DVD.

You have a lot to read.

It will probably take about 1 month, if you come everyday, to get a handle on things.

Your girlfriend shows "great confidence" in you and I'm sure you are an above average fellow.

Still, it will take about a month or so...that's my guess!

Read the guides here and at www.doom9.net

....it's harder than just downloading and burning mp3's, anyone that say's it's not is misinformed!

    regards
    Jim

    TIP:

Get down the basics and then start messing (reading) with quality settings and other things you can change to improve quality.
it took me about a week b/4 i copied my first dvd and a month later to get quality that is good. Patience is a big key and time

  6. example:
mp3's you get is 3 to 5 megs per song and Divx avi is about 100-120 megs for 1 part of 2 for a movie or program a MPEG1 or 2 can be 500-700 megs for 1 part of 2.
conclusion: If you plan on using the net, you better have a high speed modem like DSL or Cable.

  7. There is a lot of great info on here for making your own movies. Just take your time and read all the guides and don't worry if you burn a few coasters at first. You'll get the hang of it.
