  1. Im trying to rip Monster Inc. DVD using SmartRipper/DVD Decrypter and everytime i get to rip the French Version only.. even though i use "strip streaming" and choose English it just comes out as no sound.. I use IFOEDIT to strip stream still no sound..
I choose English tracks AC3 2ch.. tought that might work still not.. when i play the dvd its fine whether its on my standalone Dvd Player .. or through my Pc using PowerDVD it would play the normal English tracks not the French one.. but like i said when its time to rip it out.. it will just rip the French Language version.. and no sound when strip stream with the english one..

The Audio Stream Processing through DVD Decrypter would look like this..

    [/] 0xE0 - Video - 720x480 (NTSC) /16:9
    [/] 0x80 - Audio - AC3/6ch/Francais
    [/] 0x81 - Audio - AC3/6ch/English
    [/] 0x82 - Audio - AC3/2ch/English - Directors Comments
    [/] 0x20 - Subtitle - English / Normal Closing

BTW first of all .. i live in Canada probably thats the reason why the French language is first on the list but not all of em are like that.. anyways.. im kinda new to this too.. coz i just bought my Pioneer DVR-104 about a week ago.. and i use that to read DVD for ripping..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thx

    I assume you're talking about disc 1.

Here in the US (region 1), that disc contains TWO copies of the movie: widescreen and fullscreen.

Also, the disc I had, had only one language on it.

So I used Smartripper to rip only the widescreen version, and all audio tracks (movietrack, commentary track, etc.).

This method allowed me to fit the whole movie including all soundtracks, with room to spare.

If you're willing to copy only one version of the movie, this should allow you to keep both language tracks, and select English with your remote.

  3. leebo, I have been trying to rip this movie...I want the widescreen version of it. The problem I am having is this: when I use smartripper to rip the movie how do I tell which files are the widecreen files? I burned this movie twice and each time when I play it in Powerdvd on my cpu, it sys it is the Full screen(4:3) version. How do I go about ripping the widescreen version?

  4. I too cannot seem to rip this damn thing and get any audio. I also have the Canadian version. If anyone figures this out, please reply below.

Both Smartripper and DVD Decrytor don't produce an AC3 file even when all three audio streams are selected for demuxing.

    Tbass2k,

On the US disc, the first set of 1 gig VOB's is the widescreen version (I'm at work and don't remember the exact file names). I believe there are three or four VOB's that contain the movie.

After ripping the movie (except for the second set of pan and scan VOB's),
I used IFOEdit to re-copy the movie to a new folder and create new IFO files.
This resulted in a loss of the menu, but since I also lost the movie previews, I didn't really need the menu. I can still skip chapters by hitting the "next" button on the remote.

Also, check to see if your IFO files have been modified to report to the player to play the movie at 4:3?

Or, your software player is set to play at 4:3?

    Superjetter,
Why are you demuxing your files during the rip?

I had no problems ripping Monsters Inc with Finnish and English audio tracks. I used DVD2SVCD.

    marscable,

You said you selected the 2 channel AC3 track (Directors comments)?

Try hitting the "audio" button on your remote during playback. I'm wondering if your DVD player is set up to default playing track no. 1, and since it's not there, you get no sound?

Right. But the original poster said he had selected the English (2nd) track, but gets no sound upon playback on his DVD player.

  13. I am in the process of encoding MONSTER using TMPGEnc and have the following question:

When using DVD2AVI, I ran a preview first. In doing so, I noticed the frame type rapidly flicker back and forth between progressive/interlace, although the frame rate was 23.97 for Film.

Is it OK that I chose force film in DVD2AVI, so as to eliminate the need for IVTC in my encoding process?

Yes, the interlace stuff is only at the studio intros, and the main movie is film (progressive), it will come out fine.

  15. I am in Canada Too ... I tried this out and got the same result ... it appears that when they went to production on the Canadian Distribution copy they loaded the French Language version as the default vs the English language ... first Time I have ever seen this.

The only thing I could suggest is that you select streamprocessing in SmartRipper and only select the English Language - deselect all of the others and give it a try.

  17. I have an HP200i DVD burner, Monsters Inc. was the first and only movie I have tried to rip. ( I just got the burner a few days ago) I used the guides and links to guides found on this site. I used smartripper, IFOedit and Nero. I had no trouble with anything. I burned two different DVDs for different people to test, 1 was widescreen and the other was fullscreen. Both worked perfectly on every player we tried. The whole thing to about 2 hours.
