  1. At the moment I have 600 mhz, pretty crap cant even do 352 x 288 without dropping frames, so what im wondering is if i get a 1.2 ghz cpu processor (which i can get tommorrow) will that do SVCD??

And is the quailty of and SVCD same as a DVD on a tv screen?

No CPU speed is quite important.

if that is the case how did we do capturing 4 or more years ago with no problems at D1 resolution with p2 400 's ? which i used for a long time and worked great ... capturing is not cpu intensive - but real time software encoding is .. unless you have some lame type cap card that is running mostly software mode ...

  7. If you have good source and optimize your hard drive settings etc, no problem. I cap in Virtual Dub at 704 X 480 Huffy , Predict left or M JPEG at setting 19 w/o dropped frames using a PIII 650 Mhz.

If CPU doesn't matter, does bus matter? I mean, Celeron works on 66 MHz bus and PIII on 133 MHZ. Do you think that makes a difference in capturing?

  9. i'd have to say no on the bus since even at 66Mhz the PCI bus can handle about 510MB/s and your captures are like 50MB/s max. memory bandwidth for PC66 should be around there as well, 550 or 600MB/s. PC100 is 800MB and PC133 is 1.06GB.

it depends on what your 600mhz is and how much ram you have and how fast your hard drive is. my old celeron 466 @ 584 with 66Mhz ram and 5400rpm HD could do 720*480 mjpeg @ 19 but just barely.. huffyuv at that resolution, no way. (preview/overlay off).

but 480*480 was no sweat with that setup.

good cpu but you might have more of a problem with the VIA chipset of the board - if that is what you have .. as several have said here -- it isnt your cpu that s the problem .
