  1. Hi,
I'm new to this whole process but learning more everyday. I am wondering if theres anyway to increase the quality of an svcd. Right now I'm using dvdx 1.7 to encode and I just use most of the default setting. Most of the time I have to lower the vidio bit rate to around 1800 to 2000 to fit the dvd on 3 discs. I use 224 for the audio bit rate. I'm burning about 630 mb's in each mpeg 2 file. The reason I do this is because when I try burning 800mb's or less of file when I try to open it in vcd easy to burn it gives me an error that the file is too large. I burn it anyways but it doesn't work in my apex player. So basically I want to know if the way I am doing it is the best and if the programs I am using are the best. The quality is alright but I have a friend that burned an svcd with almost dvd like quality. Just wondering if I can improve..
    Thanks!

Go get DvdX V2, then use a SVCD output. If you change things to fit them on one disk, your not going to get the quality.

Use VCD, DID rips on VCD are almost as good as DVD

Lowering bitrates are lowering the quality, you cant have it both ways

    Your kidding me right ?

Well if your not, A DVD rip is a description giving to the process of copying a DVD and removing its protection. DVD rip's are often found on the P2P networks like Kazaa in the form of a DivX AVI.

  5. Oh LOL I thought when you typed DID you meant something new. Yes I know what that is. But that does bring me to a question. Do you burn things off kazzaa alot. I downloaded spiderman one time in svcd format and it was like 737 mb and my vcdeasy software wouldnt' burn it becuase it said it was too bign I was using a 80 min cdr.

Oh sorry, I can see what you mean now...
Yes I download DVD rips from Kazaa all the time, mostly AVI. They are much easier to edit when there is problems, and much smaller in size.

The last SVCD I downloaded was Scooby Doo quite a few problems for what it was, and twice the size of a DivX. I don't use Vcdeasy, I use Video pack 5.1, you can use TMPGEnc merge&Cut to trip it down a bit.

Its never a good idea to download and use straight away, and glitches in the download could have introduced problems, and with SVCD they are not as easy to fix.

Search Kazaa for DVD or DID
