  1. Okay, I am so confused about VCD's at the moment. Anyways, I downloaded the 3 cd copy of Episode 2. They are EPISODE 2 CD 1.MPG, CD 2.MPG, etc... I can't play the .mpg's using quicktime on my Mac. I can't play them in anything on my Mac. However on my roommates PC I was able to get them to play in windows media player. Unfortunately, the .mpg has a 4:3 ratio leaving the picture squished. I was hoping to convert it to widescreen so that I can watch it at the ratio was intended. I don't have a widescreen TV so I just need some black bars at the top and bottom. All the video editing software is on my Mac while the PC has nothing. Also, the CD burner is on my Mac and not the PC...and I have Toast 4.1.

So, my question is, how do I burn a VCD that will play at the correct aspect ratio in my DVD player (which plays VCD's)?

U can use Tmpeg to solve your problem
Read this guide that I written earlier.
PS: I've used Pal values with 4:3. To get 16:9, just multiply the hor. resolution by 9/16 to get the ver. resolution. (i.e. for 352 h.r. , the v.r is 352*9/16). Open the video file in tmpeg using the desired template from the wizard. Also, before encoding select Motion estimate to high quality from the Video settings (Other settings -> Video, if your using the wizard)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Use 'Clip frame' in Tmpeg from the setting menu or from the project wizard.

Here's how u should go about it. I've used PAL size values. Convert to NTSC by using % differences if u want to.

Check 'resize img is used to display prview' in Clip Image window.
Increase clipping values till the image fills the preview screen ( and an additional 2 pixels to reduce edge noise )
Note down the top & bottom clipping values.

Goto 'arrange setting' --> 'center custom size'

Original size for pal is 352x 288
Due to cropping, what u see on tv will be 332x264 or lesser.

Use any of the above sizes minus the top+bottom clipped value that u have noted.

EX: If u had initially clipped 37 from top and 33 from bottom, use the value

332x(264-70) = 332x194 if u want to compensate tv cropping

    Or 352x(288-70) = 352x218

  4. also i think you could try VCDGear from your friends PC [or i dont know if there is Mac VCDGear] and you can pic to make it Toast compatible file...so

load the .cue and .bin with Daemon Tools
open VCDGear and select the cd you loaded with Daemon
    check "enable toast output"
    click start
it will now extract the Mpg file.

now if you have to do this on the PC i dont know how you can get it to the Cd Burner.

but i hope this helps in some way
