I've just used Ifo Edit to strip off what i don't need from a movie i'm going to backup.

I've left myself with the video and 2 channel audio which brought the complete size down to 4.78gb.

What i want to know is there anything else i can do so that the VOB's will fit onto a 4.7DVD-R.

I know i can re-n-code using TMPEGnc or CCE or even reMPEG but i'm just wondering if there is anything else i can try before i do rencode.

  4. you still need to shrink it down quite a bit as a DVD-R will only hold 4.37GB so it looks like you will have to re-encode the video to a smaller size

This is exactly the reason why i use SmartRipper when im just taking the movie and the audio out of a dual layer movie. You use MOVIE mode and let SmartRipper demux the video and audio while it's ripping it. You're left with a M2V and AC3 files. You then use BeSweet to change the AC3 into a WAV. Finally just load the M2V and WAV into SpruceUp(or whichever authoring program)make your menus or chapters or whatever you wanna do, and just let SpruceUp author it and bam, burn it! You could also just leave the AC3, but you need an authoring program that accepts this file. But i have so many dam authoring programs right now, i can not remember which one does or does not off the top of my head.

If you like, you could try it this way, or you could keep trying your method. Either way....Good Luck

  7. Spruce-Up accepts AC3 files so no need to change to wav

    Spooki is 100% correct,

Gotta love DD 5.1, but DTS would be much better IMHO
