  1. Hello.
Ok over the weekend I noticed alittle jack on the side of my labtop that turned out to be a s-video jack. I ran to the local Radio Shack and picked up a cord and ran home and plugged it in, and boom! My desk top was on my tv, now this was great. It also takes up the whole screen whenever I open any kind of media player. Wich again is great.

Now my question. I was wondering if there was a way to capture with this jack. I mean I can get my movies from my computer to my tv, so there must be a way to get whats on the tv to my labtop. There must be...right?

I've seen countless Info-mercials where they do it, but my lazy A$$ never even realized I had that empty jack on the side of my labtop. Boy was my face red

I'm on a 4100 Inspiron labtop from Dell. Does anyone know how to do what I want to do.

I used the search engine, but it just brough up about every thread with the word "video" in it

    thanks

  2. you need to find out if your card goes both ways, does it output and imput, usually not, I have a capture card and mpeg2 output card on 2 different PCI Slots.
Now my son has the Nvidia G-force 2 400 with the imput and output on the same card but has a special 9 pin adapter that goes to an external box that has all the imouts and outputs on it. But you never know, dell might have come up with something, but I doubt it, most cards that can imput will also include a RCA video imput, S-Video and a Ant. Cable imput right next to each other, so I bet you have just a G-Force type card with a S-video out for playback only.

I did a quick check for your lappy on the internet, and I found most of the 4000 series use ATI's moble Radeon 8500. Going full screen is when video is playing is called Theater Mode. If you go to your display proporties, Advanced, and Overlay, you should see an option if you ever wish to disable this.

As for capture, I seriously doubt it's a capture card as well. Not many computer use 1 port for in and out. Also, I don't think any laptops come with the Radeon All In Wonder, which is just capturing and I think a TV tuner on the Radeon 8500.
