I have this major problem: I can't burn VCD files with my writer. Is it because I have the world's oldest writer (2x speed - it even has some sort of "drawer" you must put the cd into and THEN you can put the drawer into the computer - it's that old) or is it bound to be a software error?[/quote]

Is it that VCD software does not recognize you cd-r? Does the burning part of something that old still work?
Buring at 2x would be slow, but should be 100% possible. -
well, yeah, my writer does still work. It's just that when I try to burn an mpeg or avi file in Nero it begins alright but then suddently it stops and writes all kinds of errors.

So you don't get those same error messages burning a full disc of data files? audio?

@ UconN: please read the threads carefully before you post. The thread you linked to does not provide any particularly useful information in this case.

Go here and get daemon tools
http://www.daemon-tools.com
it makes a pretend cd drive using your hard drive.
when you install and run it, it will display a little icon in your tool bar. Click on it and click on "Device 0" and then browse to the cue file you have already made.
This will load the (s)vcd movie file onto your pretend cd drive.
Use your normal burning software program and do a disk copy from the pretend cd drive to your recorder."
I would just post a link to the thread.
I now see the error of my waysDjBeau is using Nero to convert an .avi or .mpg to a vcd format to burn and Nero is choking on it. Nothing said about bin or cue. LOL
