Most people don't use Nero to convert the AVI's, it usually makes a mess of it
Use TMPGEnc to convert with a VCD template, but first check the AVI for junk frames with Vdub

At 39% you probably hit some junk frames...

  4. You can treat avi file like your d2v&wave when you rip DVD. Just load avi in TMPGEnc both video and audio, then load template and that's it. You might need some codes if you don't have it.

What you need to do for avi is to check what res and frame rate it's been encoded so that you can load the right template. You can follow this guide for all details. http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

  5. ok well mine is 20 frames per second, how do i up the fps? it also makes it kinda choppy, and it also wont let me encode it, so what do i do?

  6. 20 fps, huh? Okay what country are you in (PAL or NTSC)?. You can try to eoncode only part of it, let's say 5 mins, using default template of whatever you nomally use. Then burn as VCD to CDRW and test it with your player.

  7. im a NTSC, USA. anyway, heres the thing, its star wars, and its split into 3, 45 minute segments. now iv'e burned 1 and 3 with only one hitch....slow fps. its all sketchy. anyway, im not sure how to encode the first 5 minutes, because it wont let me use TMPGENC at all for the second segment, or any segments for that matter, sorry if im frusterated, iv'e been at this for a week now and im still not having any luck. what i really need to do is get them all to MPG so that i dont have to go through the nero encoding process. doesnt it sound simple that thats all i have to do? to bad its practically impossible :P anyway, bare with me here, thanx for your help.

If you cannot load an AVI into TMPGEnc to encode, this is usually because you have a missing codec, download Nimo Lite, Not Nimo full (Spywear) or search Kazaa for the KJ codec pack.

You can also try this in TMPGEnc

    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

You need to load a NTSC VCD template, if you don't know if your DVD player will play XVCD (20 fps)

If you wanted to load a mpeg 2, into TMPGEnc, first install Power DVD 4
