No. To author a DVD you can use either iDVD or DVD Studio Pro.

  4. I use a Panasonic LFD321 Burner/DVDiT and the KDVD templates found on the www.kvcd.net site. I also use some SVCD templates to put two or three SVCD on on DVD-R.

  6. Can you use the dvdr disc to burn normal files? Perhaps I could generate an xml script with like 5 different mpeg files, then convert it to xa tracks and then burn the multitrack cd rom xa! Can you burn normally with a dvdr or rw disc? It just can handle a lot more minutes of xa track's right? or do u have to burn dvd movies only with it?

How can I combine mpeg files into one big one to do that? Also, could I make a menu still this way? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, JAT

  11. OK here is the process I use to create my DVD-R. I am using the Panasonic E20 DVD-Ram Recorder to record from a Digital Cable system. I copy from the DVD-Ram to my HD. I run the resulting file through DVD2AVI, then TEMPGEnc and the KDVD Full Template, the resulting file is a DVD Compliante MPEG-2 48Hz Audio file. I then use DVDiT to author this to my DVD-R. Sometimes if the movie is small (90 Min or under) I can get three on one DVD if I use the KVCD SVCD templates. I can and have applied the same process with my DVD Rip's.

Okay: everyone hang on here. The poster has a Mac, so:

If you get a DVD burner like the Pioneer superdrive, it burns DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW. You are not limited to DVD movies. You can put any kind of data on those discs.

If you want to author a DVD, then you need DVD Studio Pro, which accepts MPEG 2 files. If you don't have the video encoded yet, then you can use iDVD. Both programs are for OS 9 and OS X.

If you are interested in SVCD, then the best way to go is OS X. go to http://homepage.mac.com/rnc and look at Ross's instructions for using Mediapipe.

For VCD, the simplest way is with Toast Titanium, although someone (http://homepage.mac.com/johan) has just offered a great-looking app, although I haven't tried it much yet.

Ross's Missing Mpeg Tools are indispensible for SVCD and VCD.

There is no other way besides DVD SP (I think) to multiplex Mpeg video and audio together for a DVD. MMT will do it for a SVCD.

You usually can't use DVD-RW for video DVD.

jeremy i dont think you were properly addressing his question. He didnt want to know how to convert to vcd or svcd he wants to know how to convert multiple svcd or vcd movies onto a dvd. First use the tool that i mentioned in my previous post to prepare the material for dvd studio pro, all you have to do from there is drop the resulting video and audio files the program spits out into dvd studio pro and make menus (if you so desire) and voila. I've never completely used iDVD but what i did see of it was aweful, so try to go w/ dvd studio pro if you can. If you want to author VCD mpeg-1 to a dvd all that need be done is demuxing the streams and re-encode the audio to 48000 khz and the material will be ready for dvd studio pro, if you wanna do svcd->dvd it has to convert audio and video (yeh i know it sucks mpeg-2 and u STILL have to fully re-encode it to work) unless of course you want to try to make an xDVD but the only way to that so far involves using virtual pc, its not at all hard and only takes a few seconds, but currently cant be done JUST with mac software.
