And does it also need a 3rd party (extra-cost)Mpeg-2 DVD decoder/player to function, as 2.57 did?

Isn't it enough with the powerdvd demo(FREEE) ? And even if the powerdvd demo expires you can still use tmpgencs editor or anything that uses the powerdvd mpeg2 codec

  4. Wouldn't the Codec expired also when the PowerDVD demo expired? I thought it would.

    Yes it does.

Your use of it expires too after the demo period. I've found that out already.

I'm faced with having to pay between $35 and $65 for a program to work with DVD in TMPGenc.

  7. I've used it and found no problems with it, I have even merge/cut files encoded with vbr and no problems there either, in fact it seems to have little difference to the other 3 versions I have used. I do have a fully paid version of power dvd xp though.
