    Could someone explain why this is happening, my vcd's playback on my PC ok (in colour)on a maxtor dvd.But on my stand alone dvd player (pioneer DV-350) the only play in black and white, can any one explain and is there a solution to this problem.

  2. Hi,

    This mostly happens when you play a PAL VCD on a NTSC TV or the other way around, and you TV doesn't support the foreign format. In this case see if you can set your DVD player to only output the signal you need PAL/NTSC.

    If you are using a scart socket, check if your TV has another one, and try that. Also, ensure that scart cable has all pins connected - some don't. These can both cause lack of colour with NTSC source material played through a PAL TV.

    Thanks form the advice sorry not replied sooner been off line for a week, I changed the scart lead no change, I think what it must be is the person who burnt the vcd has not done it properly as the first one plays in colour but the second one in black and white, anyway of corresting the second one or is it a case of take it back for a refund

    If they both play OK on your PC, then they should both be OK. What you could do is copy the .dat of the problem CD to your HD. Rename it to .mpg. Multiplex it with TMPG mpeg tools and burn to VCD using Nero, or something else. However, it doesn't make a lot of sense that both discs play OK on PC, but only one in your DVD player. So it's a bit of a longshot.
