  1. Since I could not find any guides for doing this, I though I'd post what I did to get it to work.

First off, since Bink (.bnk) files have high quality video, making them into avi's will use a lot of space. I converted a 2 minute .bnk video to avi, and it took about 2 1/2 GB.

Using Rad Video Tools, I converted the .bnk to .avi. At this point, I could watch the avi on Windows Media Player, so I know that is was successful.

I then tried to convert the avi using TMPGEnc. The result was an .mpg with sound, but a black screen.

I then opened the avi in VirtualDub and saved it as a segemented avi. This took up as much space as the original avi.

I then opened the segmented avi in TMPGEnc, and converted it. It came out perfect. After converting all the segments, I merged the mpg using TMPGEnc's mpg tools.

Why did it not allow me to correctly convert the avi before I segmented it in VirtualDub, I don't know, but if anyone else comes across this problem, this may be the solution.

Maybe I'm showing some newbie roots here, but what is a Bink file? I've never seen the .bnk file extension and I've never come across it, at least not on a Windows platform. I've been doing this for a couple of years now off and on as a hobby any you've piqued my curiosity......

  3. Bink (.bnk) files are video files started by Blizzard (the makers of Diablo and Warcraft). I don't know how many people use Bink files, but there are some besides Blizzard that do. The files are suppose to have better quality then DVD quality. Video game production companies use the files to show cinematics in their games.

kayfam, it is okay that you have not heard of the files before, I just discovered them about a week ago. They are not used as much as many other video files are. They have also only been out since the release of the original Diablo.
