I don't care to much for audience participation BUT, when I saw Batman way back in the 80's, that was fun. Just at the right parts people where cheering and getting excited. I had never seen anything like it.
It was kinda wierd. For those few moment during the movie there were about 200 people all on the same page. That was worth the 2 hours we waited on line to see it.

In the late 70's. Rocky Horror Picture Show!! Midnight movie. Lots of people dressing up, lots of audience participation.
Great music.
Loved it!Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
being of a alterted state and watching Rocky Horror Picture Show back in '75 (many times) would be right up there ... nothing like interacting w/ the movie ..
other great movie experiences involved drive in theaters and can't really be discussed ...

So BJ_M,
Which character did you go dressed up as?Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones (first screening, 12am on thursday)
Had to rush home from work, meet up with mates then get down to the theatre to be there on time. The atmosphere though made it well worth while and made the film seem much better than it was especially during things like the Yoda fight scene.
Ended up getting out at like 2am in the morning but then just bludged around doing crazy shit till like 4-5am in the morning. Not a good idea when we had to be up at 7 to catch the bus to school.
Also going with my best friend to the movies like nearly every weekend for the late movie then getting out and just wasting time around the shopping centre because we didn't have our licences. Very Wonder Year's type thing were you didn't really think that much of it at the time but looking back you realise how good it was. -

I loved the American Pie movies. I saw the 2nd and 3rd in theatres and everyone in the audience laughed throughout the while thing. They were hilarious...

Nah, it's all about Office Space
I think that's one of the best movies out there, no matter how much your jobs sucks, it just seems to cheer you up. -
hands down would be Wes Craven's A New Nightmare...not because of the movie....check this out...I was with this fine azz Puerto Rican girl at the time and I took her to see that movie after class...around 3:00 p.m .....I couldn't believe it..but we were the ONLY two people in the ENTIRE THEATER. And Town & Country mall is a popular mall even til this day and that theater is super packed almost always...so how the hell that happened was beyond me.
And then after about 20 minutes of "handlin' business" this usher decides to come in and sit two rows in front of us....I was like WTF....he sat there for most of the movie if you can believe that...not completely hindering my focus...but preventing me from getting full "satisfaction" from that theater experience if ya know what I mean.Anyway, I had to see A New Nightmare at a later date...b/c I had no clue what happened in the movie.

Hello. -
Everytime at the drive-in theater.
There is nothing better than spending a warm summer evening at the drive-in with friends or that special girl.I would hide liquor in the trunk and they would search but they never found it and when the sound came through my AM car stereo I thought that was sooooo cool...ahhhh the simple pleasures in life. -
In the late 70's. Rocky Horror Picture Show!! Midnight movie. Lots of people dressing up, lots of audience participation.
... after Meat Loaf was killed I usually went out and hung out in the lobby with other people.
the weirdest thing is going to a different theater, where they had evolved different audience responses (or during Halloween, when all the non-regular patrons would show up, and recite the stuff from the audience-participation lp)... it's odd when you're the only person in the theater with a totally different "script" for it...
but most enjoyable? in the past year or two, I can think of:
- Spider-Man... really liked the "feel" of the web-swinging sequences, felt they got it right
- Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship... - had The Two Towers been ready to view after that movie, I would have stayed for another 2.5 hours...
- Jackass - having to leave the theater for five minutes before I pissed myself
- the Kurosawa film festival in Minneapolis - seeing Yojimbo, Red Beard, The Hidden Fortress on the big screen, capped off by seeing Ran (for the first time!) and The Seven Samurai (for the umpteenth time) at two different theaters on the same day, back to back.- housepig

Going to a movie in India in the 80's was an experience by itself.
a) The halls are huge - seating about 800+ people; but this is changing as new multiplexes are coming around with smaller halls
b) A movie in India is the cheapest form of entertainment - apart from sex, that is. Hence most movies were jam packed those days.
c) There was total audience participation - whistles, cat calls, clapping, cheering, etc.
You guys should come to India and watch a 'hit' Bollywood movie.
I have enjoyed many movies. I remember seeing 'It's a Mad Mad Mad World' where I laughed till my whole body ached.*** My computer can beat me at chess, but is no match when it comes to kick-boxing. *** -
Going to see Rat Race. All of my friends got together before we went off to college and saw the movie. The movie was hilarious, plus it was cool to hang out with everyone one more time before we seperated. We did the same thing the next year with American Pie 2.

I'm not sure about Macon but I think there my be one or two around Atlanta.
There aren't many left here in the US... I wonder about the rest of the world? -
It may not be Macon. I just remember that WBBQ gave tons of free tickets to a drive in in GA, and I thought for some reason that it was Macon, but I could be wrong.
-
Whatching "Life of Brian" when it first came to theatres.
I was going to say that was my best memory but after reading MOVIEGEEK's comment about the Drive-In I have to agree - "Life of Brian" is a tie with watching the original "Planet of the Apes" at the Drive-In when I was a kid with my dad. -
I'd say watching the two first two Lord of the Ring movies during work hours! Actually, they were 'group activities' but it was nice to get out of the office for 4+ hours at a time.

Drive In's are a rare thing these days. In my area (with a population of like 2-3 million) their is only 1 drive in.
