  1. I have some DVD ripped Divx movies that I want to burn to VCDs. When I convert them into MPEGs using TMPGEnc, the quality seems to diminish when I view the MPEG in full screen mode. It's blockier and fuzzier. I have read several guides here but I still haven't solved the problem. What settings do I have to use so that the quality will remain the same? Which video arrange method setting do I have to set to?
Also, how do I find out what the aspect ratio is for my Divx movie?

  2. have you viewed the DIVX in Full screen to see what it looks like, remember a DIVX movie is allready compressed so its thrown out some of the picture, you may have went to low on the bitrate on the DIVX conversion, also how low on the bitrate are you going on the MPEG1, I won't go below 1800 and really like 2520 for my VCD's, of course that means 2-3 discs, but I rather stick an extra disc in then put up with a crappy picture, really started to notice the pixelation when I went from a 27in to 36in TV, so now I really hate to use less than 2000 on VCD or SVCD's. after jumping to DVD-R, I really hate using VCD's anyway, I try to stay with SVCD's.
I have noticed the same crappy VCD's I get after encoding a DIVX AVI I get from the net, they just go to low on the bitrate when they convert them, Monsters Inc was a 340MB Divx AVI DVD Rip and looks perfect as a MPEG2 SVCD 2 Disc. But most of the rest I get are actually pretty crappy.
When I use DIVX 5.02 I usually convert with it at around 1500 bitrate, tried below that and it looks horrible when converted back to a MPEG.
OH I tried it at 6000 and wow it looked great but end up with a pretty large file also.

  3. The DIVX I have is a 700MB DVD Rip that I got from the net. I've viewed the DIVX in full screen and that quality is quite good. It's just that when I convert it into MPEG1 it gets blockier when I view it full screen.
I have never actually tried increasing the bitrate. I guess I can try that.
I can also try burning to SVCD.
I have some more questions. Do I set the source aspect ratio to 1:1 (VGA)? Also, am I suppose to set the video arrange method to Full screen (keep aspect ratio)?
    Thanks for your help.

  4. Hi:

Please tell me, How the hell can you use a bitrate of 1800 or more to make a VCD? Is not necesary 1150 bitrate to make a VCD?
