i'm converting a 352x288 avi film to vcd using virtual dub and tmpgenc.i am told converting from avi to vcd will give a loss in quality.the avi film is 530meg so average quality.when converting using option motion search precision is it better to leave normal or will (highest quality very slow) improve the quality?what i dont understand is if you leave as normal a 1 hour,260meg avi takes 2hr 30 min,but if highest quality very slow is selected it only takes 1hr 20min.these are the times seen when you hit start in tmpgenc.not converted yet.is there any other options i can select to improve pic or at least same qaulity as avi?i tried svcd but ended up with black screen after trial of about 2 min.think the quality/bitrate and resolution no where near good enough for svcd. thanks

If I were you I'd use High quality (slow) becuz you won't see much different between Highest and High. And also I'd go with SVCD if I can becuz that you can get the most quality out of avi (depends if your player can hangle SVCD or not)
So in your case about black screen when you converted to SVCD, you should tell us more details so we know how to help you.
P.S. you will never ever get same quality as original after converting.
