If you want to record an AVI to a DVD-R, you'll need to convert the video to either MPG1 or MPG2 (DVD native format)

you should see standalone players supporting divx in about 3 - 6 months ... the parts and decoders are avaiable already

do a search on this forum ... links to decoder chips and whole subassembles capable of decoding mpeg4 and divx streams and designed for dvd players have been posted ... these are to be used by the makers of dvd players and and also hardware decoding in a pc of the same ..
