Hi Guys,
I have ripped the movie to the HD, but when I re-encode with ReMPEG at 85% the end-result is very bad, big blocks show up. I have done this for another movie at the same reduction, but no problems, end result perfect. Anyone encountered the same problem? Solution?

This problem happens because the Warner Brothers logo at the beginning of the movie is interlaced, while the movie is progressive. You need remove the logo and just transcode the movie.
I found this post from Chumboy on http://www.doom9.org :
had that same problem with Oceans 11.
problem was that the first 2 cell id's are in a different screen ratio than the movie...which begins in cell 3 on vob 1.
rempeged 3 times, but still got massive pixellation, etc.
then i thought about taking out every cell id BEFORE the cell id that the movie started in. this worked!
open vob1 in vobedit
demux by cell id to new directory
delete cell id 1 and 2.vob
double click on cell 3.vob to open in vobedit
choose "join cellvob id's"
save it in the original directory.
THEN REMPEG
remux and strip streams.
it worked perfectly!
derrow, great job vobedit...this was the first time i've used it...very simple.

Thanks EnemyWithin, after deleting the 1st cell only (because in the 2nd cell the sound starts) it seems to work. I have transcoded a small part and it looks great.

how can you tell which cell id's are interlaced and which are progressive?..i'm having the same problem with the sopranos disc 1 season 2....i ran it through rempeg and it came out blocky..i previewed the vobs in dvd2avi and it showed both interlace and progressive frames but i can't tell which frames are what and how to get rid of the interlacing.

Did you try VOBrator? I will let you open up each VOB and provide information about each cell. Not sure if it will tell you if the cell is progressive or interlaced though.

tried vobrator but it can't tell me any info on what's interlaced or progressive.

use DVD2AVI to check to content of the VOB's. Open the VOB you want to check, press F6 for statistics window, press F5 to start the movie. The statistics window enables you to check which cell is interlaced or progressive.

hey zappernl i already used dvd2avi and thats how i found out it had both interlace and progressive frames..the problem is when i preview it the statistics window flashes real fast inbetween progressive and interlace so i can't tell exactly what frames are interlace..playing it for a few minutes i see that most of the film is progressive but for a few seconds it goes interlace.

ok i figured out how to read dvd2avi correctly and found that cell id #1 in each vob has the interlacing switching in and out with progressive...now how do i fix this?...i don't want to simply delete it because it is the opening credits for each episode and i want the dvd structure intact.

I don't know how to get rid of this interlaced problem. But maybe you can use VOBedit to make from each cell-id a seperate VOB file. Take the VOB with the interlaced problem, make an MPEG out of it, after this is should be possible with a video editing tool to convert it interlaced to a progressive MPEG. Make a VOB again and join them all together to a origal VOB set. Again i'm not sure if this works, but it could be worth trying it.

looks like you read my mind zappernl...i did that already...loaded the interlaced cel vob into tmpgenc and ran it through..made an mpeg2 dvd compliant and renamed it to vob...i joined all the cels back together and played the vob back.... did a test with rempeg and no blocks...but....when i play the vob back the sound cuts off right around where vob #1 ends..this is driving me crazy..now im on doom9 trying to follow the cce guide to see if that can transcode it.
