Hi All,
I want to know if the Processor and Drive Speed affect DV to PC Transfer. That is will I have Frame Drops and lower Video Quality.
My System Spec :
Processor: Intel Celeron 500Mhz
Ram: 192MB
Hard Disk : 20GB (5400rpm)
Capture Software : ULEADVS 5
Camcorder: Sony DIGITAL8 (TRV320)
I have a capture card (WINTV GO) on my system but I want to capture at higher Resolution with out Frame drops. So will it help if i install a firewire port and capture through it. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure but i believe that CPU is not very important in DV capture. The speed of the hard disk is the point. Firewire has a transfer rate about 380-400 mbits. Your drive must have the capability to write quickly the transfered video. I have captured DV video in a system like yours (with 5200 hard disk - i think it was ata 33 or 66) with absolute no problem, but have in mind that the faster your hard disk the better performance. I strongly believe that if you have DV camcorder the best solution is a firewire card. It is fast and reliable. If your IDE controller is ata 66 or 100 make sure that you have enabled it (look at the system in control panel - DMA to be checked). The CPU is a very important issue as it concerns the editing. Unfortunately video editing needs very strong systems (and a lot of money to spend).
