  1. I know this topic has been posted several times before but I still can't get it to work with my DVD drive.

I have a 16X DVD ROM (no name, shown as "standard cd-rom drives" under maufacturer), using Windows 2000 Pro on 512MB and AMD XP2000. I read about enable UDMA but can't find this setting in 2000 under device manager and DVD ROM properties.

I have the ASPI 4.71 version for 2000 installed. When I launch Smartripper the pop-up window says ASPI is available but is not associated with the drive. How do I make it associates with the drive? Regardless choosing "ASPI" or "AUTO" it always giving me 1.7X speed! Only when it goes to the next vob file it will show 8X or even 12X for about 1 second, then back to 1.7X again. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  2. Don't use ASPI 4.71. Go back to version 4.60. Go download FORCEASPI. That is the version that I'm running with Win2k pro and works great. I had problems with 4.71 and VCDEasy, as it was not properly detected by VCDEasy for burning.

In order for you to enable DMA support, right click on My Computer and select properties and go into Device Manager. The DMA setting will be on the IDE properties, not the drive properties. It will probably be reported as PIO Mode intead of UDMA if available. Simply change it and reboot.

  4. Thanks guys! The DMA was enabled under IDE but for some reason the drive just doesn't pick up the ASPI.

I'm hesitate about downloading 4.6 because Adaptec has a warning about using it on 2000. I'm ripping John Q right now and I read closely about the message, after it says " ... aspi is not associated with this drive..." it says:"switch to WINl0" what does that mean? Anybody?
