  1. 1st post & relatively new to this. I've dl'd many short divx's & others over the years. I got this awesome $67 DVD player at WalMart that'll play some of them as is without conversion (thanks to this site). None of the long theatre movies I've DL'd will play directly in it.
1st- Can anyone expound on exactly will & won't play directly on the APEX 1100W (the white labled one/good one)?

2nd- If I have to convert the movie, I understand how to use TMPG, but my issue is- it takes 1/2 a day to DL a movie and another day to convert to VCD w/ TMPG. Is there any shortcut around this pain in the _ss?

Much appreciated as I"m antsy to actually watch a full DL'd movie!

  2. nope you about summed it up with your statement. yes it takes a while to encode a whole movie. but look at it this way. your downloading it right? so you didnt pay anything for it!!! besides be gratefull you can dl a movie in half a day. being impatient in this hobby doesnt go well. encoding is half the fun. do what i do while your encoding start downloading your next movie!!

humm. i just checked out your pc profile. it may not hurt to upgrade your system a little. at 233 your lucky you can encode a movie in a day. so with what you got to work with id say your doing well..

  3. I have a cable modem and use Kazaa, if I get multiple downloads (always do) it only takes me about 1 1/2 hours to download a 500meg DivX.

  4. with a 400mhz processor it took me about 17+ hours to convert Titan AE properly at 233mhz ... hmmm are you going away for the weekend?

Anyway here's my recipe for dealing with my impatience when it comes to VCD:
    1st fire up the encoder
2nd fire up the next downloads
3rd double click the winamp icon and get yourself a good book

the 3rd step doesn't work very well for long encodings, therefore alternatively : go to the coffee, go to bed, or just merely go out

The good thing about donwloading and enconding is that u don't need to be around. And in desperate cases there are programs to automate everything! lets hear it for the guy who invented macros
