Ok I've been trying to backup black hawk down to dvd-r. I've ran into several problems. First off I made backup of the disk on my hard drive using Smartripper. then i used ifo edit to strip down to just the movie, Dolby Digital, and subs. I did this in an effort to save the captioning when a forgien language is spoken. I then re-encoded using rempeg and then remuxed using ifoedit. I burnt the the dvd using nero.
Well this is where the problem comes in. When I play the dvd on my rca player it starts play at the second chapter. The first is there but you have to rewind to play it. The subs work great. When I play the dvd in my Apex 1100w It plays from the beginning but the Subs are all jumbled and barely readable. In the past I have always used Spruceup! and everything has worked fine on both players(no subs), but in attempt to save the subs I have chose to use this method. I'm just curious if anyone has an idea what i did wrong.

the ifoedit website says running under xp is not supported. this means sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't.

If so, would u take me through it a step at a time please?, all i want is to copy the movie only from an original dvd. I have tried 3 tutorials and still not got it.Cheers

please do not think that by giving you steps to this that i use this method or think it is any good at all. i do not use rempeg and would suggest to you strongly that you get CCE and scenarist and learn to use them. but if you are just starting off then rempeg will work to get a couple of movies under your belt and make you feel more comfortable with the whole process. so having said that, here goes. you rip the ifo/bup/vob's from the disc that you want. usinf ifoedit you can strip any language and subpicture streams you so desire. with the remaining vob's from the main movie you then must create a CFFL file that will include the main movie VOB's DO NOT INCLUDE the 0.VOB of the main movie VTS set. this is 99% of the time the menu VOB and therefore you do not want it in the M2V you are going to create. once created start rempeg and load the CFFL file you made. it will scan the VOB set and when it is done then you can place your settings. hit encode, make sure you have a .M2V file extention and ten wait, 3 weeks later =) when rempeg is done with the movie then you open up ifoedit. load the main movie IFO and click VOB extras. under options make sure you have the following checked. (re-mux, correct VOB-unit, Correct IFO tables) that is all for the option. set your destination dir to anywhere you like, and in the .m2v path select the .M2V that you just created with rempeg. click ok, and then ifoedit will begin remuxing the video from rempeg and the original audio and subpicture streams from the main movie vob's. usually this works without flaw, more than likely the only problem you will encounter is God awful video quality. that is the fault of rempeg and not this process of remuxing. again. get CCE and scenarist when you feel comfortable with moving on and learn them. hope this helps you

Thanx m8,
I thought i was close, i have got the cce program as well so i'll have a play with it over the next couple of weeks.
Im using nero 5.5.7.2 to burn so do i create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders then open them in nero and then drag my new files into the VIDEO_TS folder, then burn?
I assume i select DVD(ISO)Cheers
