  1. Finally, ATI released a version of the Multimedia Center that now supports capture in SVCD. Also, it seems to be more stable than the 7.5, 7.6 and first update version of 7.7. I've got a Radeon 7500 AIW, which has produced really good mpeg quality video captures, but the VCD quality has been disappointing.

Has anyone else been subjected to system crashes during capture? My computer has booted a couple of times during capture for no good reason, although this was before the new MMC version. ATI drivers have been a major pain in the you know what. Especially in the Windows XP environment. Agree or disagree?

  3. I just started a download of MMC 7.7.0.1 from the ATI site, worked fine for me (I terminated the DL, since I already have 7.7.0.1).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. I have Win2k, most of the time when I shut the MMC down, it didn't get release from the memory and I had to kill it manually. don't know if this will cause the the crash since the memory was not released.

  5. The 118 drivers would always crash on me so I went back to the 6094 ( only the display drivers)and my system works great.

  6. XP used to crash me all the time saying it suspected the ATI driver as the culpret. Well, I rolled back to the original driver (the one XP came with). Since I never use it for games, and since I only use it to create VCD/SVCD, I don't mind that the driver is a bit slow.

Also - MMC 7.6 is a stable version. I tested 7.7.0.1 and the captures are much more blocky than my 7.6 and Stinky Reg tool combination. I will wait until the next major release (hope my Radeon will still work with say...7.9!

    Cheers,
