  1. These are my settings for the encoding...

    Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

I burned the mpg to VCD using Nero 5.0

However, when I try to play the VCD on the television the screen is cropped at the bottom. I can't read the subtitles of the anime. Strangely though, when I play the VCD in Windows Media Player the picture is sized correctly. Anyone can help?

All TV sets crop off some of the image to ensure that the video fills the screen. I haven't ever seen a TV crop off so much that it obscures the subtitles though..

Test your VCD on another TV set (or player) to be certain that overscan is the problem. You will then only be able to get around it by creating a black border around your video using, for example, Center (Custom Size) in TMPGEnc.

Did you also set Full screen > keep aspect ratio ? you can also experiment with the crop and other screen size.

On a widescreen TV you can also zoom in and out
