    Hi,

I just wanted to share my method for backing up dvds.

I have ripped and burned about a dozen DVDs since I built my new system.

I have a pretty low tech method and I was wondering if anybody else had tried it.

I create a VIDEO_TS folder on my HD. Then, using Smart Ripper, I rip all the files from the disc into the folder.

I then burn the folder to a DVDR as an ISO using Nero and I have a perfect working DVD that plays on both my set top DVD players.

If the original DVD is more than 4.5 GB (most are) I simply burn it to 2 discs. I put all the special features and the first 1 or 2 VOB files on the first disc. On the second disc I put the rest of the VOB files and as many of the special features as I can fit. Usually there is a vob file called VTS_01_0 or some variation. It proceeds the main VOBs and contains the menu. That must go on both discs. Its a very easy method and has worked for me every time.

Any comments? Has anybody tried this?

Harry Potter will resist this meathod... it tried to access something near the end of the disk at the very begining of play. I didn't have the time to try and figure out what it was so I gave up for the time being. But general this will work... of course I prefer to strip it down to 1 DVD personally.

How to create 2 single layer DVDs from a dual layer disc

First disk worked fine no problem. But I am having problem with second DVD-r.

    1: Rip the DVD
    2: Split the DVD
3: Adjust the number of chapters
4: Make the disc region free
    5: Remove User option prohibitions
    6: Final sector adjustments
7: Burn the DVD using DVDitPE

I could not find the file video_ts.vob and its not on the first disk (first plays fine). If I play DVD-r using PowerDVD works great but start with FBIW. When I put CD in the DVD player it does not work at all. I think something wrong with video_ts.ifo file and something else should be done but guide does not tell. Please help ....Burn CD 1 and no luck with second.
