Hey guys- I just ripped my first dvd using smartripper which i didn't seem to have a problem with- i then had 4 vob files that i need to convert to avi- for this i used dvd2avi. I started the program and it concurrently converted all 4 files for me, but when i went to play it i had to open the audio file seperately and the video was filled with digitized pixels and tiling- i could barely see it. does anyone know how to convert this successfully and put the audio and video together so i dont have to open it seperately?

HI there,
first of all:
when you have opened the VOB files, you should save is as a project, not as AVI.
DVD2AVI creates a seperate WAV and D2V file. The D2V file will only be like 500kb because it is a pointer to the VOB files, not a real AVI file.
The meaning of all this is to end up with a Mpeg file, not a big monstruous AVI file.
Open TMPGEnc load the D2V file as video source, and the WAV file as audio source. Not convert to Mpeg1 or Mpeg2.
This way you'll end up with a nice file which you can burn to VCd or SVCD, or keep it on your harddrive. (without using all the free space of the drive)
If you insist on having an AVI file, then use the program VFAPIconv to make another pointer from the VOB files which can be opened in Virtual Dub.
