Ok, I just got my Philips DVD+R/W. I have DVDIT PE as well as DVD Work Shop. I have a few Questions. I have done Vcd is the past (Thanks to this site) and had a blast doing it. Now I want to "upgrade" to DVD'S. This is what I am trying to do....
I have about 100+ Music Video Files that I want to put on a DVD's. ( All have been Downloaded from the net do to the fact I am not good at making them YET!!!!
I have them on my 2nd Hard Drive. Most are as is....
File Format: Mpeg-1
File Size: 44,402 KB <-------- This Can Differ per File
Duration: 187.754 Seconds <-------- This Can Differ per File
------Video-----
Total Frames: 5,627 Frames
Attributes: 24 bits, 320 x 240
Data rate: 1600 kbps
-----Audio-----
Total Samples: 8,279,970 Samples
Attributes: 44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Layer: 2
Bit Rate: 224 kbps
Now, I was getting about 12-14 songes per CD doing a VCD. How many Songs do you thing I can get on a DVD. Also, Is there a way to make the Video come out a little better? (then what is on the VCD'S..Remember, the Videos I have were made by a "home user" not ripped from a dvd or anything. they look ok, but can still look better) Some type of reencoding it or something like that? Am I going ot have ot do anything ot the videos to make them work with my DVD player. (sorry, the dvd player I am talking about is in my CAR, so I cant post make & model here..but the link can be found here http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA/CarProducts/CarProductDetails/0,1429,36002,00.html

Anyways....What kind of changes do you thing I will be running into? what is thebest prog to do what I am trying to do. I use to use NERO for the VCD'S and I understand that will burn DVD'S as well. But do I have to do anything to the Videos be for hand? Please, anyinfo will help. Thanks to all. Also, I will post this DVD player (for my car) to the DVD list after I see how it all goes. With both workshop and dvdit you can add your mpeg1 videos and it will reencode them to dvd standard. And you should be able to burn directly with them also.

thanks for the feedback. I have a few more questions. I see that the files go from about 50+ mb to just over 100+ mb (mpeg1-mpeg2) I see that as double the size. How many videos should be ablo to fit on a DVD? My DVD'S says 4.7 GB or 4 Hours of video. (Memorex DVD+RW) Is this true and what would I be using...that 4.7 GB or the 4 Video Hours? (Um I think the video Hours?) thanks again for any info!!!

4.7GB is the physical size, 4 hours is simply an estimate of the amount of time available. The higher the bitrate of the video, the less that fits within the 4.7GB. So at 100MB a pop, you'd expect to fit around 47 videos. Depending on how you encode the videos, you may see different size ratios.

If you re-encode your audio at 48000 you will have a DVD compliant MPEG1 file and will be able to fit ~7 - 8 times as much on DVD (than VCD) and still be able to play on your DVD player. DVD workshop should accept the files then without needing to re-encode.
