  1. I have three MPG files, they total at 852 megs. I want to burn all three onto one 80 min cd. I don't want to lose picture quality, but I don't mind losing some audio quality as they are just some tv shows and the quality wasn't that good to begin with. I have tried demultiplexing and remultiplex in TMPGenc, but I was unsure of how to go about it. Which settings to use, type, etc. What is a good way to go about reducing the audio quality so that I can drop about 52 megs and burn this? Thanks.

All you need to achieve what you want to is use TMPGEnc. First you de-multiplex (de-mux) your mpg stream. This operation you will find in "File">>"MPEG TOOLS". You will get an mp2 and m2v file, which are the audio and video part of your original mpg. You then load your audio part and choose "Audio only" in your stream type - Then press on the "setting" button and go to "bitrate" which should be 224. This you can change. Normally I wouldn't advise to anything below 128, but if you want to and you don't mind a tinny sound, you can of course go lower. You then press "OK" and return to the main menu of TMPGEnc. Press start and it re-encodes your audio track. (Don't forget to rename it). After encoding has finished you have to join the audio and video back together again. Open Multiplex (mux) and insert your new audio and old video feed (Don't forget to choose your stream type). Press start and that should be it. Should your VCD stream become unsynced - use BBMPEG to mux.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have done what you mentioned, but I was unsure of what to choose under stream type. These are VCD files. The first time I did it, I got an underflow error. I don't know if that is bad or not. Any way to get around it? Is bbmpeg better to use? Are there any other ways to trim some megs without re-encoding?

    Thanks again

In Stream (Multiplex) type you should have chosen mpeg1 Video-CD. See if you get the same error message. Usually when error messages appear it's bad - but the best way to find out is check if the new file is ok.

The only other way I can think of, of trimming a file is actually editing it i.e. removing boring or irrelevant parts of the movie (like them annoying sex scenes LOL! )

You might want to think of using a bigger capacity CD-R i.e. 80min or +90min.
