  1. Hello All
I am trying to create a home movie VCD. The problem I am having is with audio. The audio level sounds lower when played on my DVD player as opposed to what I hear thru the computer.
My question is: Is there a special audio format or encoding procedure for standalone DVD players? If yes what is it?

  2. Nope...just use pcm audio....should be fine....if the original audio is low volumed...try boosting the wav audio with some wave editor before making a vcd.

Split AVI into video and audio using virtual dub...maybe the normalise audio function in virtualdub does the trick.

If not...amplify the wav in a waveeditor and merge again in virtualdub.

    Then encode to VCD.

Excellent, thank you for your response. I did as you suggested using a borrowed copy of SoundForge, boosted my volume ( did some editing too while I was at it) then saved it. Worked out nicely.
I will be looking into updating my camcorder to a DV based model (currently using Sony TRV68). Too many error possibilities with the analog system.

....now if I could only find employment.....
