I am currently using the guides on this site to make VCDs, it always take 2 CD-Rs for the process. I make them so I can watch at work. But lately another coworker of mine"that I haven't been able to get in touch with" has been doing something similar. Except its in the form of an AVI with a much better picture and sound quality. Its also on 1 CD-R! Can someone please tell me how he is doing this. I'm not concerned about watching the movies on my DVD player. I just want something to watch while I'm at work, there is a whole lot of down time at my job. Also I would save a little of money on CD-Rs. If anybody can give me any information thats not to complicated, because I'm still new at this. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Your friend is using DivX to encode 1 disc AVI files which will only playback on a PC equipped with the correct codecs. However, if you're interested in creating 1 disc VCDs, read the excellent guide on this site. I prefer to create VCDs as they will play on both my PC and my standalone DVD player - 32" widescreen or 100" projector beats 17" SVGA monitor anyday!

he is using DivX / mpeg4 / qt6 -- well he is using DivX , but mpeg4 or QT could have the same result as they are now all based on mpeg4 ..
divx file is .avi and is one of the many many many types of avi's -
Both replies mentioned DivX, but neither said how to use DivX because this program doesn't come with a set of instructions. Nor the other programs mentioned in the replies. Also tring to find information on how to do something on this site is like finding a needle in a haystack. Thanks anyway, but I think I will keep tring to find my coworker I mentioned in my first post. I don't believe I'll get an straight answer here.

Divx is just a good compression or low loss codec to make avi's with...I have tons of movies under 700mb in avi/divx format....but if they look good that way they usally look good as mpeg1 on VCD also...I drop the bitrate on standard VCD template to make all my VCD movies fit on one cdr...(they are nonstandard VCDs then)
You can make AVIs...You make VCDs right...thats mpg files....You can convert the mpgs to avis using virtual dub...or when you normaly use a program such as TMPG to encode to mpeg1 for VCD encode to avi instead.
All programs are in the tools section on the left here. -
I have used TPMG to convert it to AVIs, its still to big to fit on 1 CD-R. I thought this board was for newbies, why do I keep getting complicated answers. Template, bitrate, What the hell? Is three a book like VCDS and AVIs for dummys? The answers I'm getting here are going right past me. Thanks anyway. But nevermind, I don't want to waste anyone else time by them posting answers that I don't comprehend because I am not knowledgeable in this topic.

Newbie rule 1: Read the "How to" section to your left before asking question,99% probability that your question will be answered.

I agree with the MOVIEGEEK. What are you here for Killer?? Want easy answers??? Want somebody to spoon feed you and wipe your butt??? Well let me tell ya, this stuff isn't easy. Nor does it come without some effort. VCDHELP is very well set up and has step by step instructions on how to do just about everything you need to do. The problem is ou probably don't understand the explanatios. So do what the rest of us did and go read a book, take a class, or look it up. These forums are for newbies and experienced people alike but not for Idiots.
Definition of Idiot: Person who asks a question that is answered in just about every guide ever created or even better yet asks what a word means when its explained in about every guide created.
Your criticism is seen as pure laziness and you are considered a IDIOT (See Above) to everybody who is anybody or knows anything.
and one more thing. WHY THE HELL ARE YOU WATCHING MOVIES AT WORK???? LAZINESS???? or IDIOT???? hmmmm???? -
To Kyhoop
I guess for every thread there is going to be one a**hole, that would be you kyhoop. As far as me watching movies at work, its not laziness, I said I have a lot of down time at my job in my first post. 95% of the employees here either have laptops, TV/VCR combo, or little DVD players with screens the size of the palm of your hand. I'm sure you would find something to do if you worked here Kyhoop, my guess would be jacking off. But you probably overlooked that part seeing as how you know everything. I also mentioned that I had been using the guides here to make VCDs, I was just looking for a simple answer on how to get down to one CD-R similar to the guides here that explain it easy. Instead I get a dumb answer from a simple a** computer nerd who probably was born with a mouse up his a**. To the people here who tried to help, thank you, it was highly appreciated. I'm still trying, with people here like you with positive input, I'm sure I will eventually get it. As far as Kyhoop is concerned, GO F*CK YOURSELF NERD!
Kyhoop, opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one.
