Does anyone have any guilds that they know of that can help with improving the picture or the quality of the vcd that you make using nero or TMPGEnc. The VCD I make are a bit on the poor quality side in some dark parts you can hardly make out the people at all or the picture itself is grainy.
Thanks Frank

what kind of vcd are you trying to make? is it a dvd rip or divx conversion etc... in other words what is your source ? I do one disc vcd's ripping from dvds using dvddecrypter, dvd2avi, tmpgenc and burn using nero. i can get anything up to 2hr 15mins onto one disc and the quality is superb- better than vhs.

Im getting the source from KazAa you can get any type of file i have been downloading avi files then converting them with tmp and nero. do you know of a better place of getting them??

Resolute,
The best source possible for a VCD is a DVD. The files you are getting from KazAa are heavily compressed, so that it makes it possible for people to download them in a reasonable amount of time. This heavy compression inevitably causes a lot of disruption to the picture and soundtrack of the movie, and is therefore not a good source to use for quality VCDs.
Just remember the saying: Garbage In, Garbage Out.
If you need any more help, just shout.

what you make are xvcd's which are ok but dont play in the majority of dvd players -
I've made ceveral copy's of divx movies to vcd, I use the vcd template (in tmpgenc) that gives a higher bitrate en I've got good quality.
Important is the quality of youre divx!
the template is hidden in de extra map with the unload template -
Ilscuro, you're right, the films I do are xvcd's but i've shared them with loads of my friends all with different brands of dvd players and they work fine. the thing is if you dont try it then you'll never know. The principle is the same when making a standard vcd, the only thing that you do different is choose a standard vcd template in TMPGenc and encode to two discs
