  1. I have a big avi(around 600mb) and I was wondering how I could convert it into two mpeg-1 files(1 with 1 half of the movie, the other with the other half) so that I could burn it as a vcd

Since your source file is really not that big as far as .avi files go, why not go ahead and load it into TMPGEnc, select your favorite VCD template from the Load function, and see if the resulting file can fit on a VCD?

Since you are a newbie, dont try creating any templates yet. Use the pre-set template within TMPG. See "Convert" in the green "HOW TO" section on the left sided panel on your screen.

Actually, since you profess to be a newbie, try this: After you load your video file into TMPGEnc, select "Load" at the bottom of the main program screen.

When the Open requester pops up, choose either of the Video CD files, depending on what kind of VCD you want to burn (e.g., PAL or NTSC). Select OK then select Start. The resulting file will be ready for VCD burning.

There are other templates some believe are much better than the ones that come with TMPGEnc, but these will do for now. Anyway, even though advanced users (gurus, read: you) are adept at making their own templates, do not worry about making your own just yet.
    Hello.
