Can anyone point me in the right direction to convert realplayer a/v files to MPEG1. I tried with Tmpeg and no luck. Do I need to frameserve first? Hmmmm I wonder...

if your not going to reply with any useful info, then don't bother.
you can use eo-video to convert ra to mpg
http://www.eo-video.com
here's a guide for it:

Thanks liquid. At least someone is not wasting time or space on this board with such idiotic statements as "LOL".
I see alot worse questions on this board.
so is this an exercise in futility? Should I even try to convert these. I realize the Res isn't good but I though I might try.... -
well its worth a shot, your certianly not out anything if it doen't work. Ive only used it once, and only then was because "real" was the only format the video came in (some documentry off the net).

i've said this to many
and still people don't listen
from personal experience when you have no choice but to capture a REAL PLAYER file, you will get better resolution, framerate, everything in quality if you loop it out in FULL SCREEN and back in
these screen capture programs are easier to do but they yeild poor quality most of the time
if quality is important to you with REAL, and the thing looks ok at Full screen res find a way to capture at a bigger resolution
Loop the video/audio signal out using a TV-out card and then loop back in to the same PC or a different one, using a Capture tool as you would any other capture. This works great with ATI
if you have any problems, send the thing to a Tape
sometimes VHS tapes and VCRs have functions to smooth out video or make it appear less pixelated. Utilize those functions to make your Full screen Real Player file look better when sending it back into your PC as an AVI -
hi there,
I have converted loads of rm files (mostly daria) with great success, here's what to do:
If you have a fastish PC (at least 1GHZ) then use tinra v5. and select whatever video compression you like (I use divx with a bit rate of 450). If you PC isn't quite fast enough use version 0.04f, which has been optimised for people with lower speed computers. btw you will need to download tinra GUI unless you like dos.
then I encode using TMPGEnc, you may want to 'touch-up' the picture, depending on the quality of the source, using simple colour correction.
before tinra I used EO video but it took AGES (about 2 hrs!?!?) and it's not free, tinra encodes in real-time and is free. If you have any sync problems with v5. (even if your PC is fast enough) try version 0.04f.
good luck -
yea we've all used TINRA before but the framerate is low and often not very accurate. You get sync problems too
you just shouldn't try and capture a REAL file that was encoded at 29.97 fps with a diddy little 15 fps application
i wish someone else would test the method i mentioned above out and prove the results look better -
Taking Ra or even MOV files to convert them, outputting to VHS then capturing it and encoding it works best. Take a look at the Creed - Bullets (Streaming Source) video that videopimp did. It was highly requested before the actual video came out, so videopimp was kind enuff to capture it from the net.
I have done a couple mov files out to vhs, then captured them and converted to mpg with great success, and they look good using videopimp's method to do it.
I went in their IRC channel on efnet, and asked how he did the Creed one, and he was kind enuogh to help me and tell me how he did it.
Bob
OH ya, and most RA files look like complete crap when u convert them, if they are in another format, go get them that way, or capture them yourself. RA is dead...its been Dead for a while now....
