I have ripped lots of DVD's before.

I formated a while back and reinstalled all the neccesary software to rip.
    or so I thought.
I never got this error before, where do I get an ASPI or what ever.

it says its not installed when I start SMARTRIPPER or CLADDVD

    thanks for your help

  2. An ASPI Layer is a sandwich of software that hangs out in the operating system of your PC between your DVD-ROM/CD-ROM and that ancient portion of your computer that still thinks it is a 1981 IBM PC. It's purpose? To translate the language of DVD-ROM/CD-ROM media into a form that the computer can fully digest and address with all the fervor of a floppy or tape drive. Apparently Microsoft doesn't always include an ASPI layer with its OS distributions, at least not one that works. You didn't say which OS you are using, but I would guess it is probably some form of ViRUS, AKA Windows XP Home/Professional. There should be guides that mention this little problem here at VCDHelp.com... Also others have complained of similar problems here in the forums... So a quick SEARCH for terms like "ASPI Layer" or "Adaptec" might be of use to you. Try perusing Adaptec - Downloads for help too.
