I just bought a portable DVD player, and since it plays VCD's I decided to start making some discs. I upgraded to Toast Titanium, downloaded DIVX Doctor, and downloaded a few sample files. I have a handful of .mpg files that play fine on my computer, but Toast would only accept a few of them. What is wrong with the others and what can I do to fix them.

Hi, I don't use toast (except breakfast)
but just a few points.
Does that program expect only "Compliant VCD"?
Meaning video at 1150 constant bitrate
audio at 224 (usually)
There could be other settings its expects but that is the jist of it.
Other burning software like Nero may be more tolerant ot deviations from the standard and so may your DVD player. Nero may complain but the only way to know if the files will play is to tell nero to ignore the standard when the msg pops up and burn the Videocd anyway (use cdrw if you can). Then test them in your Player. If it works great if not then you need to specify a little more info on how you created these mpeg1 (vcd) files. -
I've got a Mac PowerBook G3, system 9. The files I've referenced are the Osbournes series. Like I said, all ten play fine on my laptop, but Toast will only accept four of them to burn.
When I try to drag one of the others into Toast, I get a message that says "(file name.mpg) cannot be used to create a Video CD. Please use the Video CD option in your MPEG encoder/multiplexer."
If I open the file in Quictime Pro (which like I said it plays fine in) and try to export if using "Movie to Toast Video CD" option, the message says that an "invalid track was found."
