When I rip a DVD with Smartripper, any m2v file over 3.99 GB still shows up as 3.99 GB. My C: drive is formatted using the NTFS file system. Is this a problem and how do I fix this?

Are all of the hard drives involved (including those with the rip program, temp files, etc.) using NTFS?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
I took another look and the C: drive is NTFS and the backup, D: drive is fat32 and this is the drive that I rip to. Do I need to reformat D: to the NTFS system? I have noticed that if I rip the DVD using the "File" rip in Smartripper that the total is shown in actual size.

Yep, the drive you rip to also has to be NTFS to allow for a file larger than 4GB to be written to it. If you have to have part of the drive as FAT32, you could make 2 partitions and have one FAT32 and the other NTFS, but just having the whole drive NTFS is definitely preferable.

Depending on what OS you u se you may be able to convert the drive instead of reformatting it.
Always take a backup (unless you can afford to lose the data) before converting. -
I am in the middle of a REMPEG operation from the D: drive. If there is only 3.99 gb's of the total 6.05 gb's of the movie present I guess I had better end it. I am using Windows XP Pro. Thanks. for the assistance guys.
