OR SHOULD I TRY SAVING IT IN SOME SPECIFIED LOCATION? I'M TRYING TO ENCODE USING TMPGEnc WHEN I OPENED THE WAV FILE THAT I SAVED,THE FILE THAT SHOWS IS A QUICKTIME FILE WITH A.mpg (TITLE IN WHICH I SAVED IT).IS THAT THE WAV FILE?LASTLY WHEN ENCODING SHOULD THERE BE A SOUND WHEN I PREVIEWED IT ? HOPE ANYONE CAN HELP ME..IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN.FORGIVE ME FOR MY STUPIDITY...

"SHOULD I SAVE IT IN MY HARD DRIVE?"
Yes, assuming that "IT" is the WAV file you intend to extract.
"OR SHOULD I TRY SAVING IT IN SOME SPECIFIED LOCATION?"
Yes, whenever you save anything from any program, especially an audio/video program, always make note of exactly where you put it for future reference. If you can, save the audio/video in a "MyVideo | MovieTitle" directory on a specific partition or physical hard drive on your system.

I'm not so sure I understand you here. You saved a WAV file from VirtualDub, so the extension should be WAV, not MPG. If you load your DivX file into TMPGEnc as the Video Source, it should be an AVI file. You then load the WAV file you saved as the Audio Source. The output from TMPGEnc will be an MPG file. It doesn't matter to TMPGEnc one way or the other if your AVI, WAV or MPEG file types are associated with QuickTime.
"LASTLY WHEN ENCODING SHOULD THERE BE A SOUND WHEN I PREVIEWED IT ?"
When you begin encoding with either VirtualDub or TMPGEnc the audio does NOT play in the preview pane. When you watch a Preview in VirtualDub, before you begin the encode process, you will hear any audio that is assigned to the clip you view. When you watch a Preview, say during the Clip Frame or Source Range dialogs within TMPGEnc, there is no audio played.

It will get easier with time and practice. You aren't stupid, just learning. Take it easy.
