  1. I read the articles down here about cvd and svcd and tried to encode using tmpeg. Succeeded with svcd 480*576. The result is quite good but after reading the articles about cvd I gave that a try.
Reason for me going for CVD is better quality than SVCD and compliance with DVD standard. I am using Sony dig cam and want to burn the films on CD with the highest quality i can get.

I can burn the mpg files with nero and play them back but I am having some trouble.
The video using cvd is I think better but playback is sticky. So is the audio, there is a lot of disturbance during playback. The video part has the same problem, it is not fluent.
Already tried some small files but up to now, no better result.
So the question is obvious, How to improve things.
Some further details. I used :
    352*576, bitrate 2520 CBR ; audio 48 kH 224, GOP 1,4,2 max frames per GOP 15 (pal)
As far as I know, above is just standard 1/2 D1.

Burning, Nero burning Rom 5+, Non compliant SVCD

So far for now, I very much hope there is someone out there who can help me.

Try the same clip but set audio to standard 44100...
It must be the audio, many DVD standalones don't support 48000Khz audio on CDs...
