  1. Does anyone know of any os X (or 9) programs that will split or edit mpeg files? I did some searching and couldn't find a mention of it on the board.

I have tried using mpeg2split as on their site it says it may work with mpeg1, but it didn't produce valid mpeg files. (That quicktime would play, anyway.)

I do NOT want to re-encode the files as I just got an eyeTV (check out www.elgato.com) and so the files are hardware encoded as mpegs. I'd rather clean up the shows a bit before burning to VCDs if possible.

If there aren't any mac programs, does anyone know of open source ones for other platforms or can someone point me to a good discussion of mpeg raw formats? It seems that if I split the files on appropriate frame markers it should work, but I need to look into it more.

    thanks,

    Kevin

  2. You could try the following two command-line apps: MPEG Toolbox and mpgcut. They are done by the same author, but I would recommend trying to use mpgcut first. MPEG Toolbox doesn't quite seem to properly cut in the middle of a GOP (or anywhere), resulting in a half-second bit of garbage at the begining of every cut, even if the begining of the cut is on a GOP border (like the first frame).
Slaughtering the competition with amatuer-quality VCD authoring abilities... fear my non-l33t skillz.
