  1. NEWBIE-Looked thru forums and search options but cant find answers to a few questions.Maybe someone can help.I encoded a divx file in TMPGEnc.(part one of a downloaded movie file)331 mbs.No problems and the file was now 650 mb or so.I then burnt the file in Nero 5.5.5.1 and another in Sony express.I have a sony crx 140e cdrw.No problem in either. Here's where it gets interesting (TO ME ANYWAY)When I load each cd into my cd-rom they show different sizes. The sony shows 581mb and the Nero shows 2.16 mb.When I open each up they have different data. The Nero has 5 folders and the Sony 2. First question-Is this o.k. Second all the folders in both contain some files or data except the segment file in Nero.It shows nothing.Second question is that a problem? Both have 2 identical folders called MPEGAV AND VCD.In Nero there are 4 entrys in the vcd folder and only 2 in Sony. The MPEGAV files are the same and can open and play the movie for both in windows media when I open the AVSEQO1 file.My last question is this. Will both these vcds play in a compatible dvd player?I dont have a dvd rom or dvd player and have no way to check.Would like to purchase player if they work.Hope thats enough info and if you can help please do.Thank You.

  2. As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

Lots of info there but put simply I can answer one of your questions.
The disk containing 5 folders that you say you did with nero will play in a standalone DVD player that supports VCD's, as to the other one created with sony Im not sure, it dosent sound like a compatable VCD structure to me so the answer I feel would be no to that one.
Basically if the AVSEQO1 file will play then it will play.
Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.

  4. Thanks Guys but got that same info looking thru search before posting.I came accross the page showing what 5 folders are and someone else said that if you can play asveqo1 file it should work in dvd player. I guess I just need a blunt yes or no on that segment folder.Does it being empty mean anything went wrong with burn or is that a sometime thing that wont affect playback in dvd player?Once again thanx but I'm a newbie and it is still a little vague to me.

  5. IMHO, you can NEVER be 100% sure your home burnt disc will play in any particular DVD player until you put it in the machine and press start. There are so many variables in the VCD creation process, not just file structures and directory contents, but media comaptibility issues, burning speeds etc that no-one can give you any guarantees. About the best you can do is try your disc in a few players till you are find one you are happy with. Most retailers will be happy to let you try your discs in their demo machines (as long as they are not pron!!).

  6. Once again thanx but if all else fails thats what I will end up having to do anyway. Can someone just tell me if the segment folder being empty is a problem.Another words yes it's still possible vcd will work or no it will never play. And same with Sony made vcd.Having only 2 folders.Do I need other folders like Nero has or is that fine for a Sony vcd.
