Did you check the DVD players compatibility list on the left bar? Is has a function. Your Player is in that list, and it seems that it does not support SVCD's. It support XVCD's with a bitrate up to 2700. Check the list....

search for SVCD with VCD header
basically you can try this(might not work):
demux your mpeg, remux as mpeg-1 non-standard
your player may play it as XVCD afterwords.
what are you askin' me for...
    I'm an idiot!

  6. That Denon 1500 is a very nice DVD player, but it seems that many of the upper-line players (from most any manufacturer, uot just Denon) seem to have limited compatibility with some formats and some recorded media, but the cheapie players usually play almost anything (although the video quality is noticeably inferior). Grab something like an Apex, Sampo, etc. and a switchbox from best buy, use the Denon for DVDs and the Apex for the homemade stuff that the Denon doesn't like.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  7. If you are after an extremely compatible player try a Pioneer - I have a DV535 and it plays everything i throw at it. It's also a middle-of-the-road player - not as nice picture as more expensive rivals but it is still extremely nice quality, especially with regard to sound. Plenty of features too. So if anyone is looking for a good enough player for a reasonable price, try that

    (Try before you buy though)

This is, for the most part, marketing B.S. If you pay a
premium you will often not get a better picture. What
you can get is a better sound DAC and connections which
(if you invest $$$ on a EX receiver) gives you superior
sound. This will upset those who have paid a fortune
for the boasting rights, however (flame proof activated)
