  1. Hi,

I have an svcd i'm trying to play on my windows 2000 machine.
at first, when i tried to play it using regular players all I got was flickeing colored blocks in the viewing area and a cracking sound.

I tried downloading every possible codec and codec packs (Nimo, Tsunami, Elecard) nothing help.

I tried conversion software to convert it to divx (DVD2AVI with TMPEGenc)
nothing works. on every player/software i get the same colored blocks.

the only player that works is winDVD. but I have the subtitles for the movie in another file and I want to be able to watch it in a software like BSPlayer or something that enables subtitles. (I noticed there's an option for subtitles on winDVD but it's gray).

anyway, the funny thing is that all of this only happens on my computer. because I mannaged to see the movie from the vcd and from the harddisk (after I copied it) on several other computers where Nimo was installed. and even the conversion software worked.

I coming to think that maybe my graphic card isn't competible (??)
    it's and Inno3D Tornado GeForce2 MX400 card.

I would really appreciate any help from you guys.

    Thanks,

    Bluenote.

  3. of course i did, but it doesnt help. (i also installed the latest DirectX)

another thing i noticed was in that there was no mpeg2 codec in the codec list on the "video" properties in the Device Manager window (or maybe it shouldn't be there anyway)

    anyone else??

  4. well, some progress:

I've downloaded the ISOBuster and managed to extract the movie (not on my computer ofcourse, cuz it didn't work there....).

but the problem is that it extracted it without the sound.
ISOBuster displays all the tracks/serssion... it finds on the CD, and I noticed there was an audio track, so I tried to extract it.
but it saves it as *.tao file (????) and not wav and it very very large (750MB - like the movie).

all I want is to watch a movie. how hard can it be?

is there a way to extract the sound to wav and then combine it with the movie i extracted earlier??

I'm desperate. will apprectiate any respone.

    Thanks

    download Elecard Decoder v.2.0 http://www.elecard.com/download/
Looks, that your .tao file is just plain mpeg2 file with multiplexed video and audio, try to play it with Elecard player or with MediaPlayer, after elecard decoder installation, of course.

You need a DVD player software to play SVCD, as you already have noticed. WinDVD is good for that purpose, but no software supports SVCD subtitles. However, if your subtitles are in a separate file, you should be able to play it with WinDVD and add subtitles with (www.)dvdsubber(.com).
