  1. since the source size is VCD 352x240 i encoded it to an SVCD the same size. My question is how do i set up the disc to be a VCD disc but with an SVCD file. ex( some movies come up on the dvd player as VCD1.1 but are really SVCDs) Im wondering if the resolution for that is 352x240 or the regular 480x480.

Question 2. Well i made an image file using the regualar svcd setting in TCSV with the 352 x240 mpeg2 file and it added a padding layer of 10,000 kb to the movie. is this based on the time length of the movie or is it a set addition if the resolution is not 480x480.

well when i did a sample of Men In Black 2 it dramatically improved the picture quality and i need to find the best way to put it on disc. help if you can.

Why would you want to reencode a VCD to SVCD ??

As a VCD is 352x240 & SVCD is 480x480, all you will end up doing is making you video look worse than it is now.

You will not magically increase the quality of you content by doing this.

  3. What im saying is that i didn't up the pixel size from 352x240 to 480x480
i encoded an mpeg-2 file from the 352x240 mpeg-1 source to a 352x240 mpeg-2 source b/c i know that if i did up the pixels it would make it blocky.
when i made a tested the sample file from the movie and encoded it to 352x240 mpeg-2 , I put that file on a disc with the svcd layout and it played in my dvd player. It may be because i created an xsvcd, i don't know. but my question is can i set it up to have the dvd player say VCD but use an mpeg-2 file instead of mpeg-1

  4. Los11 ... you can use TMPGEnc's mpeg tools to apply a VCD header to the SVCD mpeg2 file and then burn as VCD.

But, as MoovyGuy pointed out, transcoding from VCD to SVCD doesn't make sense, especially when you then say you want to fool your DVD player (which plays VCD and SVCD) into thinking it is a VCD !?!??

Just play the VCD. Transcoding buys you absolutely nothing in this case, even if you keep resoultion the same. At the very best you will have only a small quality loss ... you can't improve quality this way.

You said quality was dramatically improved. Are you applying filters (noise reduction or color tweaks maybe) ? If all you are doing is transcoding then I just can't see how.
